The rhizome of turmeric is rich in curcumin, which can prevent cardiovascular disease and diabetes, alleviate osteoarthritis, and inhibit tumors. In addition, curcumin can also slow down the decline of kidney function and prevent and treat obesity-related chronic diseases.

Consumption and Safety Reminders

Turmeric is liposoluble, so it is more effective and better absorbed when used in cooking oil or added to hot water. According to the World Health Organization’s recommendation, the daily intake of turmeric for an individual should be between 0 and 3 mg, and the maximum should not exceed 200 mg.  An overdose can cause dry mouth and constipation.

If you are a diabetic patient taking hypoglycemic drugs, consuming turmeric may pose a  further increase the risk of low blood sugar. Pregnant women, gallstone patients, and those taking anticoagulants should not consume too much turmeric. It is recommended that patients with relevant diseases consult a doctor before consuming turmeric.
