Variety of Colors

Pure natural topaz comes in a variety of colors, mostly yellow, with a small amount of red, pink and blue, but the color is generally lighter. Depending on the color, the value of topaz varies. The most precious are deep red and hot pink, followed by imperial yellow, including golden yellow, orange yellow, orange red and other shades. Among them, orange-red without any brown tint is the best. Its light is like the brilliant yellow leaves in late autumn, and it is like the burning sunset at dusk, which is gorgeous and beautiful.

The color of topaz in its natural state is relatively light or colorless. As such, richer colored topaz is mostly altered by enhancement performed in the gemstone industry. As no other substances are added during the enhancement process, an altered topaz is still considered a natural gemstone in jewelry appraisal.

Like a Diamond

Topaz has high hardness, good wear resistance, and is pure and transparent. A well-cut colorless topaz may be mistaken for a diamond. In the late 18th century, the “Braganze Diamond,” a 1,680-carat topaz, was discovered in Brazil. This gemstone was set in a Portuguese crown and touted as one of the largest diamonds ever found. Later, the gemstone was discovered to actually be a colorless topaz.

Compared with other precious gemstones, topaz is clear and translucent in color and has a high-cost performance. It is particularly dazzling when inlaid in precious metals and is very popular. In the mid-18th century, topaz and diamonds were popular in France and Spain at the same time. Since then, topaz has become famous and favored by many top international jewelry companies. Many jewelry designers have used topaz as a material to create pieces of timeless jewelry.
