(Hello, Master. Artificial Intelligence (AI) causes job loss in many fields. What should today’s children learn in elementary school, so they can find a decent job when they grow up?)

Firstly, go to school as usual. Secondly, watch the most advanced science-fiction movies. Does this sound funny? I am telling the truth. Only the most advanced science-fiction movies reflect humans’ intelligence level and developmental direction. Some movies show us the existence of aliens. This is not harmful; it inspires children’s imagination. How would aliens make cellphones? Does this question inspire creative thinking?

We are living in an age of great change; it is more radical than the Industrial Revolution. Most people will lose their jobs. Only some manual-labor jobs will be left in the service industries. How can we catch up with the rapidly changing era? It is hard to tell.

The knowledge in our textbooks is basic information accumulated over several hundred years. Technological development is based on human needs — spiritual, physical and survival needs. Most products, including robots, are made to meet the 3 basic human needs. Robots were created to imitate human capabilities in life and work. However, the scariest part is that robots’ intelligence will surpass what humans have today.

I saw 2 robots produced by different companies. The robots were talking with people at a trade show. The robots were speaking by themselves; there was no person speaking behind them. The robots were thinking and speaking on their own. They have higher intelligence than what we imagine; their capabilities are beyond that of PhD-degree holders.

An experiment was conducted: 2 robots chatted together. After about half an hour, their voices and language became different from what human beings normally use. After high-speed computing and summarizing, the robots’ conversation couldn’t be understood by humans. This is dangerous. This is something we didn’t think of before. We can’t avoid it, so we have to face it. This gives children some ideas about future technologies, a basic understanding and mental preparation.

Some experts and parents have said: Using a cellphone harms kids’ development. If they aren’t allowed to use cellphones and computers, they will achieve nothing. So, what to do? Teach them to use cellphones wisely. Most children will use computers too much. Parents need to see whether the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Don’t be extreme. Forbidding kids to use computers and cellphones, or letting them use without controls — neither way is responsible.

Let children learn to use the computer appropriately. Children shouldn’t be afraid of using computers. They should master computer skills. With computer skills, your children can easily find a job after growing up. You would better let them learn coding in middle school. Although they will program games, they will benefit in many ways. Don’t fear computers, but learn to master them. So your kids won’t get behind the times, and will adapt in this era of rapid change.

Kids can’t learn about the future from textbooks. Why do we let children watch science-fiction movies? Some movie directors and screenwriters are full of imagination. They create the visionary futures in science-fiction movies. These movies include logic and truth.

Many American science-fiction movies contain lots of truth about the future. Whether or not these visions will be realized in the future, they follow the logic of human development. Teach children to embrace boundless imagination about the future, and inspire their creativity, so they can handle the advanced tools and weapons of the future.

I believe parents are interested in this topic, if your children aren’t too young or already matured. This is a good question. It inspires me, and makes me think deeper.
