Once there was a great king who had a gorgeous daughter named Chang’e.
When the princess had reached a marriageable age, the king decided to find her a young and talented husband.
Just then, 10 suns appeared in the sky. The scorching suns plunged everyone into a vicious heatwave.
The waterways dried out. People could barely breathe. The worried king announced that if a man could get rid of the extra suns in the sky, he would marry the princess to that hero.
The news spread quickly across the land, and the young talents all geared up for this challenge.
A young man named Hou Yi heard about it and joined the effort. But no matter how hard he tried, it was of no avail and he met with defeat.
Hou Yi was exhausted and fell asleep. In his dream he met an archery master with exceptional skills.

The king was elated and betrothed the princess to Hou Yi.
To the delight of all, the legendary and beautiful princess Chang’e was introduced to her husband.
The story of Hou Yi shooting down the suns spread to the Heavens.
To commend Hou Yi for his achievements, the Lady Queen Mother gave him a pill of immortality.
But Hou Yi didn’t want to leave Chang’e behind, so he gave the pill to Chang’e for safekeeping.
One day, when Hou Yi was not at home, a bad guy broke into the house and tried to seize the pill.
To prevent him from grabbing it, Chang’e swallowed the pill and instantly became immortal.
She flew out the window, floating higher and higher. That day was August 15th, and the moon was full.
Because of her feelings for Hou Yi, Chang’e flew to the moon, the closest place to Earth, and settled there.
Chang’e could only live alone on the moon, missing her husband; Hou Yi could only look at the moon and miss his wife.
On August 15th every year, Hou Yi would send Chang’e her favorite mooncakes to express his love and longing.
2000 years later… Chang’e ate many, many mooncakes.
Finally, one day…

Hou Yi and Chang’e were finally reunited and have lived a happy life ever since.
The moon is full, and the mooncake is sweet. Those who are reunited eat mooncakes together.
