Someone asked me, “Why were you so determined to learn Buddhadharma?” I replied, “I wasn’t brave. So I studied to gain strength and bravery.”
I also had many other reasons. I was greedy and wanted to let go of greed in order to give to and share with others. I was ignorant in my youth and wanted to gain wisdom. So I studied Buddhadharma diligently. I don’t know about you. If you don’t have needs, please don’t learn it as it will just be superstition to you. I hope you truly need it.
Some may say, “I don’t know whether I need it.” Let me remind you who needs to learn Buddhadharma. If you are weak, ignorant, greedy, angry, arrogant, very rich, very poor, or hoping to find a good job, then I hope you are here to stay and learn. You will surely gain inspiration and blessing from Buddha. (Got it.)
I believe if you gain some understanding of Buddhadharma, then even if you are a stone, you could fly. (Got it.) Even if you are a piece of petrified wood, you would sprout anew. (Got it.) It is incredible. Yes. Everyone has greed, hatred, ignorance, arrogance and doubt. Identify your weaknesses. Then after studying, you will see changes in yourself.
I had all the shortcomings mentioned in the song “A Hymn to Buddha”, but I have gained all the benefits mentioned in it as well. Just like Sakyamuni Buddha said, “If I can become enlightened, so can all sentient beings.” But there must be a need that drives you to learn Buddhadharma.
If you gain some understanding of Buddha’s inspiration and blessing, then even if you are a stone, you could fly. If you are a piece of petrified wood, you would sprout anew.
