(Hello, Master. My child is smart and understands reason, but he doesn’t select the right path at critical times. What’s the reason?)

What kind of question is this? He probably understands reason, even life principles. I guess he must be in his 20s. He also understands what is right and what is wrong. He also knows the importance of studying and making friends. He even has life goals and dreams.

But during critical times, he goes gambling. At a party when others are taking drugs, he also takes drugs, even knowing it is wrong. During critical times, he harms himself or his family. But he knows what is right and what is wrong. This is dangerous.

Some students attended our classes. Some even do volunteer work at the centers, but during critical moments, they do wrong deeds. I have met students like this before. To answer this question, I look at their facial features. I can tell their fortune: They lack merits from their ancestors. The child is handsome and healthy, but does bad deeds during critical times. It’s due to lack of merits from their ancestors.

So parents need to accumulate merits for their child. Do kind deeds or donate money to help victims of disasters. Be kind to others. Do volunteer work, offer lamps and pray to the buddhas. Accumulate merits for your child. Your merits can keep your child on the right path. This is especially important.

Accumulating merits far exceeds collecting gold. Merits can keep your child from doing bad deeds.
