She suffered from severe menstrual cramps, to the extent that she had to take eight painkillers a day and go without sleep. Debilitating premenstrual syndrome ate away at her quality of life. Until, that is, she found Bodhi Meditation.

After practicing meditation for five days, a miracle happened. What amazing changes took place? Find out from her story.

Youmi Choi’s Meditation Story

Chronic menstrual cramps and irregular periods.

Hello, everyone. I am Choi You-mi from the Haeundae Center in South Korea. I’d been physically weak for a long time. I often caught colds; my stomach often hurt terribly. I’d suffered from menstrual pain since my first period. It made my mom very worried.

Because the pain was too intense, every time I had my period, I couldn’t sleep the whole night. The best I could get was a short nap for an hour. At my worst, I took eight painkillers a day; the effects only lasted one hour. My menstrual cycle was also irregular. Normally we have our period once a month. Sometimes I had it once a month, sometimes twice a month, and sometimes, I didn’t have it for five consecutive months. Those months were so bad. I felt so bad physically; my waist and hips felt full of large, heavy lumps.

My whole body felt heavy and extremely fatigued. I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome and an abnormally small uterus, similar to that of a newborn baby and with poor mobility too. That is why my menstrual cramps were so severe. I also had severe premenstrual syndrome. I’d experience abdominal pain a week before my period. So, I had to take strong painkillers before going to work each day. That was the only way. I once thought that this problem would stay with me for the rest of my life.

Menstruation came without cramps after practicing meditation for five days. Menstrual cycle became regular. 

Then, on February 4, 2022, I came to Bodhi Meditation; I began spending 30 minutes before and after work to practice The Meditation of Greater Illumination(GI). On the fifth day, my period came. My lower abdomen was fine. I was surprised; it felt like a miracle. It was incredible; I felt no pain at all. What a relief that was. I didn’t know how my body had healed. I only practiced for five days; my menstrual pain disappeared. Before that, my period had been absent for four or five months. Then, after five months, it finally came.

What a miracle. And from that day on, my menstrual cycle became regular. (Back to normal?) It’s been normal since then. Previously, I only had my period five or six times a year. Now, it’s once a month, 12 times a year. (But it feels good, right?) Yes, it shows that I’m in good health. Previously, due to poor digestion, I also had severe constipation and indigestion. But since I started practicing, these issues have improved a lot. My life has been completely transformed. At first, I was only practicing for health.
